Our story wasn't the work of fiction, yet it seems terrifyingly similar to Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. I can't watch the Hulu original television series without thinking of the millions of enslaved African women who lived similar lives to the main character Offred. Truth is sometimes greater than fiction. I can't forget the plight of my fore-mothers. The enslaved handmaids of yesteryear . . .
Women lived the awful reality of Atwood's fiction. May we never forget.
